Training

Pickens Sheriff’s Office Training unit is responsible for the development and coordination of the training needs within the Sheriff’s office. The training unit conducts in house training for all divisions within the Sheriff’s Office and as well as registration at regional academies for individual employees seeking to improve their skills and continue their education.

The unit utilizes both on-staff instructors and guest instructors from other law enforcement agencies who are recognized for their experience in particular fields of law enforcement. Several of our on-staff Instructors have been asked to teach and assist with the training at other agencies and at the various regional police academies, an accomplishment we are proud of!

The Pickens Sheriff’s Office Training Unit is directed by Capt. Frank Reynolds (freynolds@pickensgasheriff.com). In addition to Capt. Reynolds, our office employees 8 other certified instructors that are qualified to teach courses ranging from Basic classroom education to advance firearms and driver training.

The CodeRED system gives county officials the ability to deliver pre-recorded emergency telephone notification/information messages to targeted areas or the entire city at a rate of up to 60,000 calls per hour. It also allows callers to receive severe weather warnings on the telephone as soon as they are issued by the National Weather Service. This is especially important as the tornado sirens are not able tobe heard inside a residence or at all in most locations.
