STOPPED

Sheriff Donnie Craig is proud to introduce the S.T.O.P.P.E.D. (Sheriff Telling Our Parents and Promoting Educated Driver’s) program to our community. This is a parental notification system developed by the Pickens Sheriff’s Office that is designed to reduce the number of young drivers involved in motor vehicle accidents.

S.T.O.P.P.E.D. is designed for parents of teen drivers that are under the age of 18 and it is a voluntary program.

“Your teenager may borrow the car, but as parents we hold the key to their future.”

How Does S.T.O.P.P.E.D. Work?

Parents voluntarily register with the Pickens Sheriff’s Office, any motor vehicle that will be operated by a driver under the age of 18.  An identification decal is issued and affixed to the rear window of each registered vehicle.

If for any reason the vehicle, when operated by a driver under 18, is stopped for any reason by the Pickens Sheriff’s Office, the Deputy will complete a notification card providing the time and location of stop, driver’s name and names of passengers, the reason for the stop and whether any citations were issued or not. Notification will then be made on the following business day by telephone and a copy of the card completed by the Deputy.

The CodeRED system gives county officials the ability to deliver pre-recorded emergency telephone notification/information messages to targeted areas or the entire city at a rate of up to 60,000 calls per hour. It also allows callers to receive severe weather warnings on the telephone as soon as they are issued by the National Weather Service. This is especially important as the tornado sirens are not able tobe heard inside a residence or at all in most locations.
