The Pickens Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Unit is currently being formed to enforce upcoming animal ordinances, and state laws, in our growing county, concerning the care and protection of our pets and animals. We are all responsible for the care of our pets and animals, and the Office of the Sheriff will be assisting in that endeavor. Our attempts will be aimed at reducing the number of animal abuse, animal bite, and aggressive animal cases occurring in our area. By enforcing common-sense ordinances, we will improve the everyday life of our citizens, while treating our animals in a humane fashion.

One of our greatest tools will be public and departmental education. We will be assisting the Uniform Patrol Division in the area of problem calls, as well as keeping everyone up-to-date with changing animal issues in our county. The Animal Control Unit will also be letting people know how important some of the seemingly little things are:

  • Collar and tag our pets
  • Keep up-to-date Rabies vaccinations on record
  • Keep our animals within our control areas
  • Reporting dangerous animals.

Our animals deserve for us to be responsible pet-owners. Help us to better serve you!

The CodeRED system gives county officials the ability to deliver pre-recorded emergency telephone notification/information messages to targeted areas or the entire city at a rate of up to 60,000 calls per hour. It also allows callers to receive severe weather warnings on the telephone as soon as they are issued by the National Weather Service. This is especially important as the tornado sirens are not able tobe heard inside a residence or at all in most locations.
